Student Success Coordinator Job Description
Function and Scope
Reporting to the TRIO Student Support Services Director, the Student Success Coordinator is responsible for providing academic, personal, career, and financial aid counseling to students enrolled in SUNY Geneseo’s Student Support Services (SSS) Program. This position will maintain data on students served by SSS and provide assistance with student recruitment and other program activities such as workshops, seminars, and identification of mentors. The Student Success Coordinator occasionally must be available to assist SSS program staff in accompanying students during off-campus and overnight visits. This is a full-time 12-month position. This position is grant-funded and is anticipated to last through August 31, 2030.
SSS is a federally funded TRIO grant program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The mission of the SUNY Geneseo SSS Program is to provide comprehensive academic support services to increase the retention and graduation rates of low-income and first-generation students and/or students with disabilities by fostering academic success in a supportive educational and advising environment. The SSS Program at SUNY Geneseo will serve a minimum of 140 participants per year.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide academic, personal, career, and financial aid counseling to students enrolled in SSS Program, including advice and assistance in course selection
- Assist in the development, planning, and coordination of student programming including on-campus workshops/events and off-campus travel experiences that focus on belonging, graduate school exploration, financial literacy, personal and professional development, & career readiness
- Facilitate SSS workshops and SSS campus events designed to assist TRIO SSS participants with connecting with campus resources, graduate school exploration, and leadership development
- Prepare and maintain mandatory program documentation and records, including but not limited to student meeting records and workshop & travel attendee lists
- Coordinate with internal departments for referrals and services to program participants, providing workshops and student development opportunities to engage SSS participants
- Maintain data on students served by the SSS Project
- Work closely with Financial Aid to provide application support, loan alternatives, and financial and economic literacy
- Work closely with SUNY Geneseo’s Career Design Center to assist with graduate/professional program applications and targeted career support for in-demand occupations
- Provide information to eligible students and serve as a recruiter for the program
- Serve on department, division, and/or university committees as applicable
Requirements
Skills/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, student personnel services, education or related field (master’s preferred)
- Experience in overcoming barriers or working with individuals similar to those of the target population
- Experience in academic advising and/or peer advising in a secondary, post-secondary, or higher educational setting
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and Google Tools) and database management (e.g., Excel, Access)
- Knowledge of student development theory and understanding of the advisement needs of students from under-represented populations
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Travel requirement: Occasional overnight
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Banner, EAB Navigate or other early-alert systems, and learning management systems
Compensation for this Position
This is a full-time position with a salary of $57,000 (plus fringe benefits).

CSTEP Success Coach/Coordinator (Part-Time) Job Description
Function and Scope
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Access Opportunity Programs, the CSTEP Success Coach/Coordinator provides a broad range of services to help approximately 59 students from underserved, low-income, and first-generation backgrounds to reach their goals of pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and licensed professions. Through semi structured weekly meetings, the CSTEP Success Coach/Coordinator works with a caseload of students to improve their academic performance and overall success. CSTEP is a New York State grant funded program and the CSTEP Success Coach/Coordinator position will at all times be contingent upon third party grant funding. Any lack of such funding may lead to a reduction in work hours or the elimination of this position.
Schedule
The part-time CSTEP Success Coach/Coordinator will work approximately 15-18 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Meets with a caseload of CSTEP students weekly to create academic plans, address academic issues related to study approaches and workload responsibilities, and check progress.
- Aides students in setting course grade goals with academic plans.
- Helps students develop/improve non-cognitive skills, such as:
- Academic Behaviors: going to class, doing homework, organizing materials, participating in class, and studying; - Academic Perseverance: grit, tenacity, delayed gratification, self-discipline, and self-control;
- Academic Mindset: sense of belonging, fit, fixed/growth: “I belong in this academic community; my ability and competence can grow with my effort; I can succeed at this,” knowledgeable of “Imposter Syndrome;”
- Learning Strategies: study skills, meta-cognition, self-regulated learning, goal setting;
- Social Skills: interpersonal skills, empathy, cooperation, assertion, responsibility.
- Leads monthly workshops on topics such as time management, staying organized, how to take effective notes, study strategies, etc.
- Supports administrative needs such as creating flyers, organization of files, planning workshops and events, etc.
- Manages the CSTEP resource site with relevant research, internship, and conference opportunities for CSTEP students.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Skills/Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Prior experience working with or knowledge of mentoring STEM majors (biology, chemistry, math, nursing, psychology, sociology, etc.).
- Prior experience working with, or knowledge of, underserved, low-income, and first-generation student populations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Flexibility in part-time work hours is required to accommodate changes to class schedules, enrollment and other factors throughout the College’s academic year.
- Expected to work in a hybrid format (a mix of in-person, on-campus, and remote work).
- Evidence of effective interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with a diverse college communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.
- Ability to interact collaboratively and professionally with diverse groups and constituencies throughout the College.
- Strong commitment to the College’s mission and to its students, faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a Master’s of Higher Education, Postsecondary Education, Educational Counseling or similar graduate program.
Compensation
This is a part-time position (FTE .67) with a salary of $38,800 (plus fringe benefits).

- Act as liaison between the RF and SUNY Geneseo
- Provide both financial and non-financial compliance reviews on awards/contracts
- Provide various administrative support to faculty/staff throughout the award's project period
- Provide budget/financial tracking (order processing, vendor payments, process stipend payments, travel reconciliation/payments, account reviews); and
- Overall employee services responsibilities such as processing new hire assignments
