Microcredentials

The Department coordinates two integrative curricular microcredentials:

Engaged Philosophy

The ICM in Engaged Philosophy encourages students to apply philosophical concepts to real-world problems, and to use real-world experiences to reflect upon and refine their understanging of philosophical concepts.

Requirements:

  1. Academic Content: Any two PHIL courses (6 credits)

  2. PHIL-sponsored Integrative and Applied Learning Experience (e.g., serving as a TA for a PHIL course, completion of an internship via PHIL 395, participation in the Department's outreach program, serving as a student representative to the Department, serving in a leadership role in Philosophy Club, completing a Philosophy faculty-led study abroad program)

  3. Self-reflective statement

Bioethics

The ICM in bioethics is aimed at providing students with a strong basis in ethics, especially bioethics, which can then be applied regarding issues of values and politics to all areas of health, medicine, and technology. The microcredential is open to all students, but might be of special interest to those pursuing career paths or future education in medicine or health sciences, public health, biology, social science and humanities based study of health/medicine, philosophy, or bioethics.
